Emily Rosa's energy field experiment.

(Science Week – Day 4!)

At about a decade old in the 1990s, Emily performed a single-blind study on 13 professionals claiming the ability to feel a “human energy field."

Each got ten tries to guess above which of their own two hands, left or right, was hovering her own hand behind a screen.

As sometimes happens in such experiments, their guesses were as good as chance, and according to the Journal of the American Medical Association in which it was published, it was the only study of its kind to that point on the late 20th-century practice of "Therapeutic Touch."

That seems amazing – you’d think that attitude and such tests would be everyday among humans, yet untold amounts have been spent by less skeptical adults on psychics and faith healers.

Questioning this burgeoning unevidenced field took an Emily Rosa – a child standing up to convention with some empiricism.
