(Science Week – Day 5!)

In one way, the meeting of science and art is magic. In a more profound way, it’s the opposite.

I’m not sure what kind of weird master of stuff Seán Doran is, but he’s certainly composited many pictures based on scientific data online. The function of his “art,” if that’s what you call it, is apparently to substitute for our lacking ability to be and see places we can’t.

This full-length film epitomizes that; the source material is time-lapse photography from the ISS. The finished product is an apparent full orbit around the Earth in real time. (In 4K, naturally.)

Mere decades ago, the entirety of human history included nothing like this.
