Bombadier beetle's defensive melody.
(Science Week – Day 1!)
It's hard to resist delving outward from Earth, but as it’s Darwin Day, it would be fitting to observe something within the biological macrocosm.
At the cost of proverbially cucumbering this poor insect, we’re granted a look at its legendary ability to defend itself with a seeming chemical explosion – in fact, a unique sequence so distinct as to be notatable.
(Reminder: if others post for Darwin Day or Science Week in “public” fashion, I’ll share them later.)
