Jony Ive on creativity.
We haven't heard much from Ive since he worked at Apple, where he seldom spoke outside the confines of the precisely-produced videos nestled within the executive staff's live presentations. He all but identifies himself as a quiet person in this speech, where he talks not about Apple, but about his relationship to design and creativity in general.
Ive has always struck me as a person who speaks so deeply in the abstract that it's difficult to understand what he's talking about. On the plus, that incomprehensibility makes him seem rather distinguished. More substantially: when you do take some meaning from his thoughts, you realize the utility of that abstraction is broad applicability. Ive has designed objects, but I've found his almost proverbial insights applicable to the creation of visual art, music, scripts, and even groups of people guided by common ideas or directives.
