MuseScore 4 released!
From its passionate and committed software team, MuseScore 4, at last! A true "overhaul," as they say in software, with some of the deeper-down technologies re-written. My applause to them.
I'd say MuseScore has gradually up-ended the notation software market by providing an increasingly decent, free alternative to people who would either have had to buy some version of Finale or Sibelius – they dominated the space enough to have a number of versions for varying wealth classes, if you will – or scribble on paper (still a noble method).
I'd been using the alpha this year and waiting patiently. I don't have a huge music project at the moment, but I'll be pecking and trying things.
Note that an app called "Muse Hub" is now provided by default – an encompassing app from which to download MuseScore and other items. A warning that, on the Mac, at least, it wants to install more than one background item, which seems obnoxious for something people will clearly use selectively, and it looks like "download MuseScore without Muse Hub" is an available de-emphasized option. Or, if you like this sort of thing, MuseScore 4 without Muse Hub is also ready to install using Homebrew.
