Animal sightings, courtesy of NamibiaCam.

I've been tuning in nightly to this incredible live feed from an artificial waterhole in the Namib Desert in Namibia. It's often barren, but impromptu "sightings" are possible as various animals wander through to bathe, drink, rub against the felled tree or lick the provided salt blocks. So far I've seen species with long horns and cloven hooves, something like buffalo, something like a wolf or fox, pigeon-like birds, some zebra, and some sort of warthog who seemed to be having a blast cycling through the aforementioned activities. That alone fills me with questions about what these species are and how they relate to those I'm more familiar with. The accompanying FAQ lists some of them.

I've seen and heard so little from any African countries that the whole continent remains highly mysterious to me, and I thank the Internet and the staff for providing any kind of direct interface.
