The accidentally-recorded meteorite strike.
(Science Week, day 3!)
From last year, a doorbell camera in Prince Edward Island captured the sight and sound of a small incoming rock for what might have been the first time ever, and the benevolent residents, Laura Kelly and Joe Valadium, were good enough to share it with the news and a visiting meteorite specialist.
I've chosen to share Sarah Plowman's segment on CTV, since they also chat with the aforementioned people. What a beautiful shot of the concurrent rays of light grey dust on the stone pathway, the result of the rock's approach at perhaps 200 kilometres an hour – about twice as fast as a fast freeway vehicle. And the sound, in the fidelity available, is surprisingly "shattery."
Joe's commentary from the segment:
We need to be reminded that the lives that we lead are just a small part of this, I don't know, celestial drama that's so much bigger than we can possibly imagine.
